Why "Climate Intelligence" Is the ESG Term Investment Teams Are Actually Searching For

We analysed 15 ESG keywords across 12 months of search data. "Climate intelligence" peaked at index 100 in March 2026 and is still climbing — making it the highest-search ESG term in the set and the clearest positioning opportunity for data platforms serving investment teams.

We ran a search trend analysis across 15 ESG and climate data keywords. The results were clearer than expected — and they point to a specific opportunity that most data platforms are missing. The Headline Finding "Climate intelligence" is the breakout term. With a 12-month average index of 56 and a peak of 100 in March 2026, it is now the highest-search ESG keyword in the entire set — and it is still climbing into May. This is not a niche term. It is what a growing share of the market uses to describe exactly what investment teams and ESG analysts are looking for: not raw data, but structured intelligence about climate risk, sustainability performance, and carbon exposure. More importantly, it is differentiated. "ESG data provider" and "carbon data provider" barely register (both sub-10 index). "Climate intelligence" has real search volume and almost no direct competition in how platforms position themselves. The Full Keyword Ranking Tier 1 — Volume workhorses (index mid-40s, consistent year-round): - Sustainability data — How buyers describe their data need when actively searching. Stable, high-volume, transactional intent. - ESG reporting — The compliance-driven search. Teams under CSRD, TCFD, or GRI pressure are actively looking for reporting data solutions. These two terms are where the consistent search demand lives. They should anchor blog content strategy and appear in every dataset description and meta tag. Tier 2 — Meaningful supporting terms (index 20–30): - Scope 3 data (index 28) — Strong enough to build dedicated content around. Supply chain emissions data is an active purchase intent keyword. - Climate risk data (index 24) — Used by investment teams doing climate risk assessment, TCFD scenario analysis, and physical risk modelling. Tier 3 — Don't build SEO strategy here (index <10): ESG due diligence, ESG dataset, ESG investment data, carbon disclosure data, carbon data provider. These terms barely register. Organic search is not how buyers find solutions in these categories. Where the Searches Are Coming From Geography matters here, and it changes the target market picture significantly. Hong Kong appears in the top 5 for every single ESG keyword. This is not noise — it reflects mandatory ESG disclosure requirements under HKEX listing rules, which are pushing asset managers and listed companies to actively source sustainability data. Hong Kong is building ESG compliance infrastructure at scale right now. Central and Eastern Europe (Slovakia, Czechia, Bulgaria) is surprisingly active. The driver is EU CSRD enforcement. Companies in accession and recently-joined EU states are under active regulatory pressure and are searching for solutions. India is emerging — search volume is growing but not yet at European levels. The US is present but not leading. American institutional buyers tend to find ESG data through Bloomberg Terminal, direct vendor relationships, or consultant recommendation — not Google.
